Curiouser and curiouser: The Economist’s NFT auction
After sending Alice down the rabbit hole on a cover that accompanied our leader and a briefing on decentralised finance last month, The Economist is tumbling down after her. We are auctioning that cover as a “non-fungible token” (NFT), a record on the Ethereum blockchain that represents a piece of digital media.
Whereas Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before her fall, we thought we had never in our lives seen such a curious opportunity to try something new and raise money for The Economist Educational Foundation, an independent charity that helps students learn about current affairs.
The online auction will run on Foundation, a platform for digital artwork, from 5pm BST on Monday October 25th until 5pm BST on Tuesday October 26th. Ask the Duchess’s question: “Shall I try the experiment?”

NFT的全称是Non-fungible token，是一种基于以太坊区块链的“非同质化代币”。
与比特币、以太币等虚拟货币一样，NFT同样依靠区块链进行交易。但NFT代币的最大特点在于其唯一性，“非同质化”，每一块NFT都独一无二，不可互换，人们可以将特殊资产绑定在NFT上，其可以让许多物品成为一种数字化抽象物，变成所有者的“数字资产”。

《爱丽丝梦游仙境》（Alice in Wonderland）讲述了一个名叫爱丽丝的英国小女孩在百般无聊之际，为了追逐一只揣着怀表、会说话的兔子而不慎掉入了兔子洞，从而进入了一个神奇的国度并经历了一系列奇幻冒险的故事。
在这个世界里，喝一口水就能缩得如同老鼠大小，吃一块蛋糕又会变成巨人，同一块蘑菇吃右边就变矮，吃其左边则又长高，在这个世界里，似乎所有吃的东西都有古怪。
她还遇到了一大堆人和动物：渡渡鸟、蜥蜴比尔、柴郡猫、疯帽匠、三月野兔、睡鼠、素甲鱼、鹰头狮、丑陋的公爵夫人。
她在一扇小门后的大花园里遇到了一整副的扑克牌，牌里粗暴的红桃王后、老好人红桃国王和神气活现的红桃杰克（J）等等。
爱丽丝帮助兔子寻找丢失的扇子和手套，她之后还帮三个园丁躲避红王后的迫害，她还在荒诞的法庭上大声抗议国王和王后对好人的诬陷。
在这个奇幻疯狂的世界里，似乎只有爱丽丝是清醒的人，她不断探险，同时又不断追问“我是谁”，在探险的同时不断认识自我，不断成长，在终于成长为一个“大”姑娘的时候，她猛然惊醒，才发现原来这一切都是自己的一个梦境。
